“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest” – Benjamin Franklin.

The bustling of papers, registration forms being filled frantically with a constant inflow of delegates was the scenario on the morning of December 14 and 15, 2019.

It was with immense pleasure that TRICHY SRM MEDICAL COLLEGE HOSPITAL AND RESEARCH CENTRE hosted the ROCK OTOPHONY ‘19.

Being the brainchild of The Association of Otolaryngologists of India, Trichy. They pulled off this herculean task with panache, in association with TSRMMCH, under the expert guidance of our honourable chairman Dr.R.Shivakumar.

Being a two-day workshop, it’s main focus was on ontology and laryngology surgery. Our dean, Professor Dr A. Jesudoss, being the co-organizing chairman, exhibited superlative leadership skills in coordinating the guests and the delegates, leading to a near-perfect event.

On 14th December, the delegates witnessed live demonstrations of Stapedotomy and facial nerve decompression surgery by the eminent Dr.Vijayendra H, who graced the occasion as the chief guest and imparted his sound knowledge to the audience gathered.

This was followed by a live demo of revision mastoidectomy by Dr.Sangeetha, a skilled surgeon, trained under our chief guest and trans canal facial nerve decompression by Dr Vinay Vijayendra.

After an enriching day, the delegates were treated to a grand dinner by the organisers, at HOTEL BREEZE RESIDENCY, Trichy.

Day two (15th December) was yet another fulfilling day with our guest faculty, Dr Jeyakumar Menon, demonstrating live surgeries on cordotomy and micro laryngeal surgery. He also demonstrated Type 1 thyroplasty on a cadaver. That wasn’t the end of it all. Video laryngoscopy for our SRM hospital inpatients was also done with a live demonstration.

Not every day do we witness such meticulously planned and executed educational workshops, which surpassed everyone’s expectations.

Having conducted the event without any hiccups, a big thanks is in order for everyone involved in this accomplishment. Dr.Jawahar, the Organizing secretary, left no stones unturned in his vote of thanks, expressing his heartfelt gratitude for the workshop’s successful completion, particularly to Dr.A.Venugopal, Organizing Chairman and Dr S. Gnanatilakan, Organizing treasurer.

Be it the advisors, scientific committee, coordination committee, food, accommodation and entertainment committee, transport and stall coordinators, each and every individual worked seamlessly together as one team and achieved a triumph.

As the institution takes giant leaps in terms of spearheading events, a bright future lies ahead, full of opportunities for growth and beyond.
